DAILY LUCK TO CHANGE YOUR BRAIN
If you haven’t already read my intro post about how to adjust your luck, you can do so right here.
As discussed in that post, in 2021—before I became a professional hypnotist—I kept a "Lucky Thing of the Day" jar. Every day, I wrote down one lucky moment that happened to me. By the end of the year, I had gathered up a whole jar of experiences I felt I could honestly call "lucky things” (and again, you can read more about those moments at that original post).
Today let’s look at how that experiment positively impacted my life, and how it can impact yours.
The long and short of it is, that the more I noticed luck, the more it showed up.
It felt both totally obvious and completely magical. This sparked a curiosity that led me to dive deeper into research—not just about luck but also the psychology and neurology around making fundamental transformations in the way we experience life.
In the experiment with the “Lucky Thing of the Day” jar, the act of noticing luck, combined with making a physical “evidence file” created a cognitive shift, down in my subconscious beliefs about what it means to be lucky—literally rewiring my brain.
Yes, you got that right: it changed my actual neurology.
Here’s how:
✅ It strengthened neural pathways related to optimism and opportunity
✅ It weakened old pathways tied to limiting beliefs about luck
✅ It likely reduced activity in brain areas associated with anxiety (like the amygdala) and increased activity in areas involved in motivation and reward (like the prefrontal cortex)
When new neural pathways start to be used more frequently than old ones, they replace the old.
(This is also how I eliminated my general anxiety and a 21 year-long chronic migraine condition, released an old professional identity that it no longer served me to identify so strongly with, and opened me up to a more satisfying career—as a hypnotist! But more on all this in future posts, so stay tuned.)
Now, if you’re like me, you don’t want to have to commit to a new practice every day for a year before you really start seeing lasting changes. You want to lay down new those neural pathways much faster than that…
Here’s where hypnosis comes in:
Hypnosis works by tapping into the subconscious mind, where the emotions and beliefs live that are driving your story and your behaviors.
This is different than working on making changes from a conscious place, because the conscious mind tries to change things using sheer willpower. But when you’re stressed, stuck in a routine, or just plain exhausted, it’s all to easy too fall back into the same patterns—like a computer running the same old programs.
The best way to change those programs is to get in and rewrite the code, which can only happen on the subconscious level. Hypnosis is the most efficient way to do that.
What I was able to transform through a year-long, daily ritual (which required giving repeated messages and evidence, over and over, on the conscious level before it eventually weaseled its way through to the subconscious level)… only took me 1 - 5 weeks to transform for other beliefs and behaviors, when I began to approach things using hypnosis.
Maybe you’re feeling hopeful, excited, or curious by anything you’ve just read… So there are two free resources I’m happy to offer you today, to help you keep experiencing the power of hypnosis:
Request a complimentary consultation to find out if hypnotherapy with me is a good fit for an issue that you’re ready to transform.
Register for the group hypnosis session “(AD)JUST YOUR LUCK”, on March 24, 2025, taking place on Zoom.
If you miss the live event, the replay will be available for purchase after the fact.
Thanks for reading!
